Four faculties to be adapted for persons with disabilities within three months

As announced today, on the occasion of signing the Contract for adaptation of faculties with a view to facilitating access for persons with disabilities, four faculties of University of Montenegro will be adapted for persons with disabilities within the following three months. The contract was signed between the Minister of Education, Damir Šehović, PhD, and a representative of “LD Gradnja-Ramel-Ening” consortium, Desimir Radulović, and it relates to: Faculty of Philosophy - Nikšić, Faculty of Civil Engineering – Podgorica, Faculty of Law – Podgorica and Faculty for Tourism and Hotel Management – Kotor. Total value of works amounts to 230,000 EUR.

Noting the importance of this Contract, minister Šehović stated that facilitated access for persons with disabilities must not be a matter of someone’s goodwill, but a natural obligation of all authorities involved in ensuring equal circumstances for each citizen. He emphasized that this is a complex process, but this fact cannot release anyone of their obligations and responsibilities.

The access has so far been adapted at about 107 educational institutions, whereas toilets have been adapted in over 60; however, as the minister noted, serious work must be done to improve the situation in this area. He added: “Symbolically, we signed the Contract towards the International Day of Disabled Persons, December 3rd”, and concluded: “It is my duty to promise you that we will do everything in our power to make the system in this part work equally for everybody.”

Desimir Radulović said that he will carry out contractual obligations in a responsible manner, thanking for the opportunity that has been given to this consortium to work on such an important project.

The adaptation works are implemented through the project “Higher Education and Research for Innovation and Competitiveness – HERIC”, which is financed from the World Bank loan in the amount of 12 million EUR.
